Full professor of Ecology. M.S. focuses its research activities on ecological data analysis and modelling and to the application of new technologies to ecological problems, with special reference to those related to aquatic ecosystems structure, dynamics and restoration. Ecological Informatics and Machine Learning techniques play a major role in his research activities. M.S. is a member of the editorial board of Ecological Informatics (Elsevier), Scientific Reports (Nature Publishing Group) and Freshwater Biology (Wiley). At present, M.S. is assisting the Italian Ministry for the Environment in the implementation of the Marine Strategy Directive (2008/56/EC).
